I See You

I have been in similar dark places throughout my life, but I found healing from shame through counseling and my self-discovery journey.

Let’s face it – life today is hard! Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, and painful trauma, we all need to be seen and heard. I have been in similar dark places throughout my life, but I found healing from shame through counseling and my self-discovery journey.

Instead of feeling alone in that pit of despair, lets both work together in a safe and compassionate place to learn to change the patterns that keep us all stuck. The healing work starts inside each of us as we discover how to pave new roads that lead to freedom!

Britt Ward

My name is Britt Ward, an LPC-Associate in the state of Texas, under the supervision of Sarah Arnold, LPC-S. After working toward my own healing from depression and past trauma, I felt a pull to end my career as a real estate agent and pursue a profession that would allow me to counsel and coach others to achieve healing as well. This led me to the pursuit of a counseling license. I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University in 2024; and I interned for a year at Oakwood Roots in College Station providing sound counsel, compassion, and empathy. I have a passion for helping others traverse their individual journeys of self-discovery and healing.

Generally, I advocate for a relational and holistic approach to therapy, emphasizing the importance of seeking and achieving balance across all aspects of our lives – mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional – to attain wholeness. Think of these aspects as pieces to our individual puzzle. While each person’s pieces are unique, I am convinced that neglecting or failing to balance any part of ourselves is what causes us to be incomplete. When we are incomplete, we can lose sight of the whole, get easily distracted, disorganized, and become generally ineffective. Central to my philosophy is the belief in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship in facilitating this balance and leading to healing and growth.

In my spare time, I love hanging out with my family. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 24 years and we have four amazing children together, three of whom are out of the house now. We love to travel, seek adventures, relax on Lake Travis, play family games, and hike trails anywhere we go. My own self-care includes Pilates, reading, and watching documentaries on influential people throughout history. I look forward to getting to know you.

Credentials:
Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University, Member of Phi Kappa Phi, Member of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Member of American Counseling Association,  Bachelors of Accounting from University of Texas at Austin in 2014

Theories & Techniques

Britt uses a variety of techniques and theories in counseling for several important reasons, all aimed at providing the most effective and personalized support for their clients. These reasons include the necessity to facilitate individual differences, complexity of issues, the importance of a holistic approach, being flexible and adaptive, and allowing for the client’s development over time.

Cognitive Behavior Theory (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized and evidence-based form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals understand and change the patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to their emotional and psychological difficulties. At Inner Work Counseling, we utilize CBT to provide effective and structured support for a variety of mental health issues. CBT can be utilized to work through anxiety, depression, stress management, PTSD, OCD, and relationship issues.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an innovative and compassionate approach to psychotherapy that explores the different parts of the self and their relationships within the individual. At Inner Work Counseling, we utilize IFS therapy to help clients achieve greater harmony and healing by understanding and integrating their internal dynamics.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (ETF)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach primarily used in couples therapy, but also effective in individual therapy contexts. It focuses on understanding and transforming the emotional dynamics within relationships. EFT is rooted in attachment theory, which posits that humans are innately driven to seek and maintain emotional bonds with significant others. It emphasizes how early attachment patterns influence adult relationships and emotional responses.

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is a highly effective therapeutic approach designed to repair and strengthen intimate relationships. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980s, EFT is grounded in attachment theory and focuses on the emotional bonds between partners. EFT views adult romantic relationships through the lens of attachment bonds formed in early childhood. It emphasizes that a secure emotional connection with a partner is essential for emotional well-being and personal growth.

Enneagram

Using the Enneagram in therapy involves incorporating this personality typing system to enhance self-awareness, emotional growth, and interpersonal understanding. The Enneagram identifies nine distinct personality types, each with its own patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
